Chemical Effluent Plant – 4m3/hr DAF Plant

Problem Statement

The effluent produced by our client did not meet the municipal discharge standards and therefore required additional treatment before discharge. In order to treat the client’s effluent, it was proposed to design, supply, install and commission a dissolved air floatation unit to treat 4m3/hr.

Solution

Initially a pilot plant was installed. The DAF plant aimed to reduce COD levels and aid in the removal of Anionic surfactant and F&O.

Typical Plant Feed

  • Effluent Process Water

Performance Target

  • pH – 5.9-10.0
  • Conductivity – 500ms/m
  • TSS < 1000mg/l
  • COD < 5000mg/l
  • Iron Total < 20mg/l
  • Orthophosphate < 50mg/l
  • Ammonium Nitrogen < 200mg/l
  • Sodium < 500mg/l
  • Fats/Oils < 500mg/l
  • Anionic < 500mg/l

Process

  • Jar Tests
  • Flocculation
  • pH Correction
  • Chemical Dosing
  • Dissolved Air Floatation

Innovation

The DAF plant was completed with all its auxiliary plant and equipment, duty and standby pumps, pre-treatment stage with chemical dosing, a flocculation retention/reaction stage and included an air water saturator recirculation system.
