Containerised Shale Dam Reclaim Water Treatment Plants 36 m3/hr and 50 m3/hr

Problem Statement
Two containerized potable water treatment plants were required to treat river water from the existing Hilltop concrete raw water reservoir. The feed had a Turbidity of 400 NTU, it was required that the product water to be that of a quality that fits SABS or WHO Standards. The plants were expected to have production capacities of 50 m3 /h and 36 m3 /h calculated over 20 hours/day operation with allowance for daily operation and maintenance as well as desludging of the settlers and backwashing of the filters.
Solution

Process Description
Raw water will be pumped through to the pre- treatment stage, which incorporates chemical dosing for primary flocculant, pH correction, floc aid and disinfection. The water is then sent to reaction columns, thereafter in order to have sufficient contact time, the water is sent to a settler. From settling, filtration is the next step to further improve the water quality followed by disinfection. The final destination of the water is the clean water storage tank.
