Process/Project Engineer

An exciting opportunity has opened up to join a fast-growing water treatment company that’s a leader in this multi-faceted industry. We’re looking for an exceptional Process Engineer to help grow our footprint across Africa.

The Process/Project Engineer oversees, conducts and executes engineering responsibilities and engineering principals which include day-to-day activities such as technical process design, technical process solution formulations and technical process proposals for water treatment across industrial, municipal and domestic sectors.

In addition, the Process/Project Engineer is also charged with focusing on the mentoring and coaching of entry-level engineers in the engineering department as well as giving constructive, technical process design advice and adhering to product quality specifications and technical requirements.

This role is also responsible for overseeing and managing of technical staff (engineers and technicians), presentation of technical engineering data during project execution activities. This role also requires on site execution of engineering projects in terms of installation, commissioning, staff training as well as after sales services and operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Overseeing and mentoring functional application of technical sales proposals and preliminary process design for:

  • Pre-Treatment which includes Clarification (Dissolved Air Flotation & Settling), Media Filtration and more
  • Ultrafiltration
  • Reverse Osmosis Treatment
  • Chemical Dosing Systems
  • Sludge Treatment which includes Centrifuges, Filter Presses, Thickeners and more
  • Design Considerations: Process Selection, Process Calculations, Equipment Sizing, Line & Valve Sizing, Pump Sizing and more
  • Preparation and layout: Process Flow Diagrams, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, General Arrangements, Equipment & Plant Layouts, Electrical Load Lists & Power Consumption Calculations
  • RFQ Preparation: Scope of Works, Technical Datasheets, Process Simulations, Chemical Consumption Calculations
  • Interaction with EC&I Engineers to assist with the development, implementation and execution of control philosophies and methodologies
  • Preparation, Evaluation & Comparison of Technical Documents and Equipment from different manufacturers
 

2. Oversee Project Management:

  • Managing costing and estimating systems
  • Liaise with workshop manager regarding scheduling and capacity
  • Project timelines and execution
  • Testing of equipment predelivery
  • Ensuring quality and specifications that meets market requirements
  • Continual improvements where possible
  • Conducting factory acceptance testing
 

3. Oversee Installation, Commissioning & Training:

  • Ensure correct mechanical & electrical installation
  • Ensure successful commissioning with respect to cold commissioning, loop testing and hot commissioning
  • Execution & implementation of control philosophies
  • Compiling Operating & Maintenance Manuals
  • Providing handover documentation which includes training registers, Performance Acceptance Testing
  • Travelling, both local and international
 

4. Continual Improvement:

Qualifications required for the role

  • Matric
  • BSc (BEng) Chemical

 

Relevant experience required

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in water treatment, operations, and design
  • Exposure in water treatment technologies in market e.g., RO, Filters, valves
  • Experience in project management
  • Have a clear understanding of project or bid requirements – scope & cost
  • Sales and marketing experience
  • Knowledge of current water treatment space

 

Certifications, licenses and registration

  • A membership of an appropriate professional body will be advantageous
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Must be able to travel locally and internationally.
